CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2018

The Friends now move into their 14th year and I must pay tribute to the officers of the Charity who willingly stand for office and maintain the momentum of our work together with those who come and go from our committee. During this time we have always valued the support of our President, Fr Adrian and especially you, the members who pay your subscriptions and support our work.

We moved our Annual General Meeting to a Sunday last year and because of its success this idea will be continued. More people were available to attend and the sharing of a lunch on a Sunday was a positive social event.

We continue to plan our events carefully alongside other church activities and we are pleased to invite our friends the Backworth Male Voice Choir to give a concert again this year. We have also built a friendly relationship with the Royal Northern Sinfonia Orchestra who will be giving 2 concerts on 3 dates this year. Whilst this is not a friends sponsored event the Friends will provide interval refreshments to support our cause.

Heritage Open Days will span 2 weekends this year and in conjunction with the Church Council there will be a different programme of events and a different type of exhibition in church.

We continue to work closely with Bellringers Guild regarding the installation of new bells at St Georges. Progress is slow at the moment but the initiative is still regarded favourably by all concerned.

Our accounts show that we have a healthy balance and we are awaiting a request from the church council for financial assistance due to emergency stonework repairs to the apse windows. We are aware of some major and expensive work that will be required on the huge west window which is showing dangerous decay. So our fundraising continues to be so important in our mission to preserve the historic fabric of the church building.

Finally we ask you to respond to the requirements of GDPR as outlined in this brochure.

Thank you again for your support.

Blyth Johnson, Chairman. .
